George Osborne is to raise social housing rents for hundreds of thousands of tenants by £70 a week writes Nigel Nelson in the Sunday People.

Those in council homes and housing association properties will be hit to claw back £250million a year in Wednesday’s Budget.

It will mean 300,000 tenants on incomes of £30,000 will lose £3,500 a year from 2017. That will be raised to £40,000 in London.

The move will affect nearly one in ten social housing tenants in England who will have to pay market rent for the first time.
